Description
The Nano Amplifier V5 from 3D Lab is a power amplifier operating in class D. It is a component designed to amplify the audio signal downstream of a preamplifier, to directly drive loudspeakers.
Its distinctive feature lies in a hybrid power supply: a linear power supply feeds the input stages, while a switch-mode power supply handles the power circuit. This mixed architecture aims to combine the stability and finesse of a linear power supply with the efficiency and compactness of a switch-mode power supply, with the goal of preserving the dynamics and musicality of the amplified signal.
The amplifier features balanced and unbalanced inputs, allowing it to be paired with sources or preamplifiers equipped with XLR outputs as well as RCA outputs, without any particular wiring constraints.
It can operate in classic stereo configuration or in mono mode, the latter being intended for use in bi-amplification or mono-block-per-channel setups.

What to check before buying used
On this hybrid power supply design, it is worth checking that the class D power circuit produces no switching noise or hum at idle, a possible sign of worn capacitors on the linear stage. The XLR and RCA connectors deserve a check for cleanliness and mechanical grip, as do the speaker terminals. A load test on both channels, in stereo as well as mono mode, ensures that the delivered power remains symmetrical without distortion or premature thermal cut-out.
