3D Lab NANO NETWORK TRANSPORT Signature V5
3D Lab Nano Signature V5 audiophile network transport, designed without a PC card or switched-mode power supply, compatible with the main streaming software and services.
Description
The Nano Network Transport Signature V5 from 3D Lab is a network transport designed for playing dematerialised music. Unlike many network players that rely on an architecture close to that of a computer, this model is designed without a PC card or switched-mode power supply, with the aim of limiting sources of electrical and digital interference likely to affect the audio signal.
This transport handles formats up to 32-bit/768 kHz as well as DSD 16x. It incorporates a dual clock with a stated phase noise of -173 dB, a parameter that contributes to the stability and precision of the digital signal transmitted downstream to a DAC or audio system.
In terms of connectivity and uses, the unit can read USB flash drives and connect to an external hard drive via a dedicated USB port. It is compatible with a wide range of software and services: Audirvana, JRiver, Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify, Roon, HQPlayer, Squeezebox, as well as AirPlay and Bluetooth.
This transport is aimed at the demanding listener wishing to replace or complement a physical source with a high-end network solution, without compromising on playback quality. Its compatibility with the main streaming services and library management software also makes it a relevant choice for a multi-room installation, with one or more servers and several control points.
What to check before buying used
The absence of a switched-mode power supply and PC card makes this transport more sensitive to shocks and humidity than a conventional network player: check the integrity of the chassis and the absence of oxidation on the USB and network connectors. Systematically test the recognition of a USB flash drive and an external hard drive, as well as the stability of the stream in DSD and high resolution, as a malfunction of the dual clock can result in dropouts or sound artefacts. Also ensure that the firmware still accepts updates, as some streaming services regularly change their protocols.
