Absolue Créations TIM-POWER 2

The TIM-POWER 2 is a mains distribution strip from Absolue Créations, positioned in the Power series above the TIM-POWER 1. Its function is simple to state: receive the domestic mains supply and redistribute it to all the electronics of a system, while preserving the current available at each socket. The chassis is deliberately understated in appearance, with the essential work taking place inside.

The current path does not rely on conventional wiring but on three pure copper busbars plated with 24-carat gold, insulated with silk and silicone. The connection to the domestic mains reuses the strands of the manufacturer's Clémenceau mains cable, implemented using the technologies of the Fontainebleau model. Overall insulation combines polyvinyl and flame-retardant antistatic nylon. On the socket side, the strip is fitted with Furutech FI-E38 (G) connectors plated with 24-carat gold, available in either a 4-socket or 6-socket configuration.

Absolue Créations claims a new internal topology and new connectors for this model, combined with work on noise reduction and electromagnetic interference treatment, ARS technology and a floor decoupling system. This last point indicates a unit designed to be placed openly rather than hidden away just anywhere behind a piece of furniture.

This type of distribution strip is aimed at two-channel hi-fi or home cinema systems of intermediate to high level, where several components, source, preamplification, amplification, possibly video processing, need to share the same power point without one penalising the others. A 6-socket version suits multi-component systems, while the 4-socket version suits a more compact set-up.

When buying used, a few checks are specific to this type of product:

• the condition of the contacts on the Furutech sockets: tarnished or pitted gold plating, or a contact blade loosened by repeated plugging, will result in a less firm grip on plugs;
• the integrity of the sheath and plug of the cable connecting to the domestic mains, particularly at the exit points from the chassis, the area most subject to flexing;
• the internal fixing of the copper busbars: a strip that has been dropped or has undergone lengthy transport may have loosened fixings;
• the length of the connecting cable, which could be ordered to a custom length at the time of manufacture and determines how the strip can be positioned within the system;
• the presence of the original decoupling elements, which are easily mislaid during a house move.

Finally, the model's variant, 4 or 6 sockets, should be confirmed before any purchase: the two versions share the same design but do not cover the same connection needs.
