Description
The Double X NEO is a belt-drive turntable designed by Acoustic Signature. It features a quiet AC motor, powered by an external multi-voltage supply unit, and allows playback at 33 1/3 and 45 revolutions per minute with fine speed adjustment. It accommodates a single tonearm, compatible with 9-inch models, with the TA-500 NEO or TA-1000 NEO tonearms available as options depending on the desired configuration.
The platter, made of anodised aluminium, is driven by a speed-regulated belt-drive system, controlled by a digital motor controller integrated into the control panel. Speed regulation aims for stable rotation, a necessary condition for faithful reproduction of the signal cut into the record. The turntable rests on a massive 64 mm sandwich chassis, combining MDF, steel and plywood, a construction designed to limit the parasitic resonances that can colour the sound.
To control vibrations, Acoustic Signature has equipped this turntable with Level 1 AVC technology combined with eight 'silencer' modules positioned to reduce vibrations transmitted to the platter. The bearing housing uses a Dura Turn Diamond bearing, renowned for its precision and rigidity. The whole unit sits on three gel-damped aluminium feet, height-adjustable, which also contribute to decoupling from the supporting surface.

What to check before buying used
The Dura Turn Diamond bearing warrants a check for play and noise before purchase, as does the tension and condition of the drive belt, which loosens or cracks over time and is easily replaced. Also check the flatness of the anodised aluminium platter and the adjustment of the three gel-damped feet, whose gel can harden or settle depending on the age of the unit. Finally, test the speed regulation at both speeds to rule out any fault in the integrated motor controller.
