Description
The Tornado NEO is a high-mass audiophile turntable designed by Acoustic Signature, belonging to the NEO series. It stands out for its versatility: the chassis can accommodate up to three tonearms thanks to its adjustable mounts, allowing several cartridges or listening configurations to be combined on a single turntable.
Drive is by belt, with regulated speed and fine adjustment of the sub-platter speed, for two available speeds: 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. The single AC motor, fully isolated from the chassis, is controlled by an external digital motor controller, the DMC-20, which delivers ultra-stable multi-voltage power (100-260 V AC, 50/60 Hz) and incorporates Level 1 AVC technology for automatic vibration control. The control panel is located externally, with a flexible installation position.
The anodised aluminium platter, 310 mm in diameter, 50 mm thick and weighing 11 kg, incorporates four silencer modules designed to reduce vibration. The massive chassis, made from 45 mm aluminium alloy, rests on a three-foot system of height-adjustable, gel-damped aluminium feet. The bearing uses a high-precision Dura Turn Diamond bearing with diamond-coated spindle, designed to provide rigidity and stability to the assembly.
This model is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts seeking an upgradeable high-mass turntable, capable of accommodating several tonearms over time or according to listening needs. What to check before buying used
When buying second-hand, several points deserve attention with this type of high-mass turntable. The condition of the platter bearing should be checked, as it is a central element for speed stability and mechanical longevity. The drive belt, a wear part, should be examined for any signs of ageing or loss of elasticity. Proper functioning of the external DMC-20 motor controller and its power supply should also be checked, as should the condition of the gel-damped feet, which help isolate external vibrations. Finally, if the turntable is fitted with one or more tonearms, the condition of the cartridge and associated wiring should be checked separately.
