What to check before buying used
The optical assembly and loading tray deserve a priority check: a tired laser or a grinding mechanism results in playback refusals or skipping on certain discs. The original Raytheon 5744 NOS valves should be examined for micro-cuts, hum or loss of brightness, signs of wear that will eventually require replacement. Checking the power supply and the 115/230 V voltage selector also avoids unpleasant surprises depending on the unit's origin.
