Description
The A10 Apex 30th is a hybrid stereo integrated amplifier from Advance Paris, combining a tube preamplification stage with a transistor power stage operating in Class A/B with High-Bias. This mixed architecture aims to combine the sonic texture associated with tubes and the power handling characteristic of transistors, for amplification that is both warm and controlled.
The preamplification is built around ECC81 / 12AT7 tubes, while digital-to-analogue conversion relies on an ESS9018 DAC. The unit delivers 2 x 130 W RMS into 8 ohms and 2 x 198 W RMS into 4 ohms, with a frequency response from 20 Hz to 80 kHz (+/- 1 dB), THD+N distortion of 0.045% at 90 W and a signal-to-noise ratio of 106 dB. The toroidal transformer contributes to a stable power supply, useful for handling power peaks without faltering.
The amplifier features a built-in RIAA phono preamplifier compatible with MM cartridges, allowing a turntable to be connected directly without a separate phono stage. Two subwoofer outputs, configurable as mono or stereo, allow a subwoofer to be added while preserving the spatial coherence of the bass.
On the connectivity side, the A-BTC dongle provides Bluetooth to connect a smartphone, tablet, computer, or even Bluetooth headphones. The HDMI eARC input allows it to be connected directly to a television, with CEC management: the amplifier switches on with the TV and volume is controlled from the television's remote control. AMP-IN inputs also allow it to be integrated into a home cinema setup as the amplifier for the left and right channels.
This wide range of connectivity is suited both to vinyl enthusiasts and to those wanting to unify music listening and TV audio in a single unit, without multiplying boxes. What to check before buying used
The ECC81 tubes in the preamplification stage wear with hours of use: a listening test is required to detect hum, excessive hiss or intermittent sound, signs that a replacement will soon be needed. The built-in RIAA phono preamplifier deserves an audible check with an MM turntable, as this circuit can degrade over time. It is also advisable to check the condition of the power supply capacitors and the correct functioning of the two subwoofer outputs, as well as the absence of play or noise on the volume and balance potentiometers.
