Description
The A8 Apex is a hybrid integrated amplifier that combines ECC81/12AT7 tubes with transistor stages, delivering an output power of 2 x 76 W RMS into 8 ohms (2 x 110 W into 4 ohms) in class A/B. This mixed architecture allows it to drive demanding speakers while retaining a compact design.
The ESS9018 DAC handles digital-to-analogue conversion of sources connected via USB or HDMI, with measured distortion of 0.03% at 52 W and a signal-to-noise ratio of 100 dB. The unit also incorporates a RIAA phono preamplifier compatible with MM cartridges, allowing a turntable to be connected directly without a separate phono stage. The HDMI eARC input, combined with CEC functions, synchronises the amplifier's power-on with that of the television and allows volume to be controlled from the television's remote.
The A8 Apex also features a subwoofer output as well as Pre-Out and Amp-In connections, allowing it to be integrated into a larger system or upgraded to a bi-amplified configuration. An A-BTC Bluetooth receiver is available as an option for wireless streaming from a phone, tablet or computer.
