Description
The PlayStream A7 is a connected integrated amplifier from Advance Paris, designed to bring together in a single unit the traditional amplification function and that of a network source. It allows direct control of speakers while giving access to locally stored or streamed music, without going through a separate player or server.
Its amplification section delivers a power output of 2x115W into 8Ω in class AB, an operation associated with High-Bias which brings the sound rendering of the first watts closer to that of a class A stage, renowned for its linearity. On the network side, the unit incorporates an Ethernet and Wifi module compatible with the main streaming services (Spotify, Deezer, Qobuz, Tidal, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, vTuner, Napster) as well as playback from a smartphone, tablet, computer or Synology NAS. A digital DAB+ tuner and an FM tuner complete the radio reception.
The connectivity includes four digital inputs (one coaxial, three optical), an HDMI ARC input, a USB input and six analogue inputs including a configurable phono input, which allows the connection of a turntable without an external preamplifier. The unit is also compatible with the brand's aptX HD Bluetooth receivers, referenced X-FTB01 and X-FTB02, for high-definition wireless streaming from a smartphone or tablet.

What to check before buying used
On a connected integrated amplifier of this type, test each digital input and the network module: a temperamental Wifi or Ethernet port, a DAB+ that no longer picks up signal, or a streaming app that won't connect are more common than a fault in the pure amplification stage. Also check that the configurable phono input works properly and that there is no crackling from the potentiometers or front panel controls after several years of use. A reset or firmware update may be necessary if the streaming services stop responding.
