When buying a used example, a few points specific to this type of headphones deserve attention. The supra-aural ear pads, in direct contact with the outer ear, sag and crack over the years: this changes how they sit on the ear and therefore the perceived balance. The headband and the adjustment system undergo mechanical fatigue from repeated fitting, as does the arch, which should be checked for cracks or play. On the cable side, continuity should be checked by flexing the sheath near the plug and at the housing entry: micro-cuts and intermittent channels almost always originate there.
