Description
The ALF80 is a mid-range passive subwoofer from Amina, designed to reinforce the bass of music, films and television without requiring built-in amplification. It stands out for its ability to be installed discreetly in a ceiling or cabinet, leaving only a small circular vent visible in the room.
Its design is based on a 4th-order bandpass architecture, a technique that achieves a high sound level and good bass depth despite a reduced visual footprint. Filtering and protection circuits are built into the subwoofer, allowing it to accept a full-bandwidth amplified signal directly, without the need for an external filter.
The ALF80 can be driven by a 150 W amplifier delivering full-bandwidth content. This protection and filtering architecture, shared with the ALF40 model from the same range, makes it easier to integrate with Amina panel speakers, for sonic consistency across an entire installation.
This subwoofer is aimed at those wishing to complement an installation of invisible or discreet speakers, for home cinema as well as music listening, without installing a visible bass speaker in the room. It is particularly suited to architectural integration projects where the aesthetics of the room take precedence over the presence of a traditional subwoofer.
What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the driver's suspension (flexibility, absence of cracks) and the integrity of the circular vent, which is often exposed to knocks during handling. Inspect the enclosure for any signs of moisture or deformation if the original installation was in a loft or outside a cupboard, as the sealed cabinetry makes any internal fault difficult to detect. Test power handling across the full bandwidth, as the built-in filtering and protection circuits can degrade with age without any visible sign.
