Description
The MA100 is a power amplifier designed and manufactured in France by Atoll Electronique. Its compact-format casing conceals electronics designed to power demanding speakers, in combination with a separate preamplifier. It is a pure power stage, intended for hi-fi systems built from separate components.
Despite its compact size, the MA100 delivers 2 x 80 Watts into 4 ohms and 2 x 60 Watts into 8 ohms, a power output made possible by a symmetrical construction with discrete components combined with a pair of MOS-FET transistors per channel. The power supply relies on a 170 VA toroidal transformer, a choice that favours the stability of the current delivered to the speakers. The unit can also be bridged to mono, a configuration that allows all available power to be concentrated on a single channel, useful in particular for powering a subwoofer or for a biamplified setup.
On the connectivity side, the MA100 offers one RCA input and one RCA output, as well as a 12V trigger input in mini-jack format, which allows its power on and off to be synchronised with those of the associated preamplifier.
This model is aimed at enthusiasts of hi-fi systems built from separate components who wish to pair a compact power amplifier with an existing preamplifier, without sacrificing the ability to drive current-hungry speakers. Its reduced size also makes it an interesting option for installations where space must remain limited.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is advisable to check the condition of the toroidal transformer and confirm the absence of background noise or hum when powering on, a possible sign of ageing power supply capacitors. Checking that the trigger input and the mono bridge function work correctly is also recommended, as is examining the RCA connectors, which are often subject to wear from repeated connections.
