Description
The Anthem MDX8 is a multizone distribution amplifier designed to drive up to 4 independent audio zones from a single chassis. It allows analogue or digital inputs to be freely assigned to the various outputs, making it a foundation for installations with audio distributed across several rooms.
Each zone has its own settings: bass and treble levels adjustable over ± 6 dB, level balance over ± 10 dB, and independent subwoofer management with adjustment of crossover frequency, level, phase and polarity. The amplifier delivers 8x60 watts into 8 ohms and 8x120 watts into 4 ohms, with a frequency response of 10 Hz to 20 kHz (± 0.5 dB). ARC (Anthem Room Correction) room correction is applied zone by zone, tailoring reproduction to each listening space. Connectivity includes 4 stereo RCA inputs, a digital S/PDIF input, an optical input, an RJ-45 Ethernet port, a 3.5 mm trigger input and a Micro-USB input dedicated to ARC calibration. The digital-to-analogue converter supports PCM up to 24-bit / 192 kHz.
This type of amplifier is aimed at multi-room audio installations requiring fine per-zone control, whether for an extensive residential setup or a configuration incorporating several sources and several separate listening points.

What to check before buying used
On a multizone amplifier of this type, each power channel and each subwoofer output should be tested independently, as certain zones may show different wear depending on their usage history. The ARC room correction function requires a functioning Micro-USB connection: check that this port responds correctly. Checking the Ethernet port and the web configuration interface is also recommended, as these elements are essential for zone setup.
