Description
The Arcam A19 is a stereo integrated amplifier belonging to the FMJ range from the British manufacturer Arcam. It sits at the heart of a hi-fi system, tasked with amplifying the audio signal to drive a pair of speakers.
Its distinctive feature lies in the design of its power supply section, sized to also power Arcam rSeries products. This characteristic allows the A19 to be transformed into a digital receiver by pairing it with dedicated modules, such as the rPac or the rBlink, thereby opening the way to USB or Bluetooth connections. Paired with an rBlink, for example, the amplifier can stream tracks from applications such as Deezer or Spotify.

What to check before buying used
The A19's motorised potentiometer may develop a scratching noise or uneven channel response at low levels, a classic symptom to check across the full range of the volume control. The protection relays and power supply capacitors, called upon to support any rSeries modules, are worth listening to over an extended period to detect hum or unexpected cutting out. A check of the RCA sockets and speaker terminals, often marked by repeated connections, completes the inspection.
