Description

The Radia A5+ is a stereo integrated amplifier from Arcam, a British brand specialising since 1976 in amplifier design. It combines a class A/B power section, a dedicated phono input and digital inputs, allowing you to connect a turntable, analogue sources and Bluetooth devices on a single unit.

Continuous output power reaches 50 W per channel into 8 Ohms and 75 W into 4 Ohms, with harmonic distortion measured at 0.003% at 80% power into 8 Ohms at 1 kHz, resulting in clean sound reproduction even at high listening levels. The MM phono input allows a turntable fitted with a moving magnet cartridge to be connected directly, without an external phono preamplifier. The ESS ES9018 digital-to-analogue converter processes high-resolution audio streams received via the coaxial and optical inputs, up to 192 kHz / 24 bit. The Bluetooth 5.4 connection with aptX HD Lossless allows wireless streaming from a smartphone or tablet, as well as listening via Bluetooth headphones.

This model is intended for compact stereo listening, combining a vinyl source with digital or wireless sources, for a home setup that does not require a separate power amplifier. It will suit enthusiasts looking for a single central unit capable of driving speakers rated at 8 or 4 Ohms.

What to check before buying used

On an amplifier of this generation, attention should first focus on the MM phono input: checking its operation with a moving magnet cartridge allows you to confirm the absence of noise or distortion. The volume and source selector potentiometers also deserve testing across their full range, checking for crackling caused by contact oxidation. It is worth checking the pairing and stability of the Bluetooth connection, as well as the operation of the headphone output and the coaxial and optical digital inputs.
