These Atacama pads are interface accessories between a speaker, or its stand, and the floor. Their role is twofold: to bear the weight of the floorstanding speaker or stand without damaging the flooring, and to introduce an additional layer between the speaker and the surface it rests on.
Their primary use concerns floors that cannot be drilled or marked: solid wood, floating floors, and more generally any delicate flooring on which a conventional decoupling spike would leave a permanent mark. The pad spreads the load and makes the installation reversible, which matters in a rented property or on a recently laid floor.
Beyond protection, the source states that they provide an additional degree of isolation: the speaker is no longer in direct contact with the floor, which limits mechanical transmission into the floor structure. This is the main benefit on a floating floor, where the plank laid on an underlay easily behaves as a vibrating surface.
The pack contains four pieces, a complete set for a speaker or stand with four contact points. Two sizes are offered, Small and Large, to be chosen according to the size of the base and the mass to be supported.

What to check before buying used
As a used item, this type of accessory should be examined on a few specific points. Check that all four pads are present and of the same size, as a mismatched set would make the footing unstable. Inspect the condition of the floor contact surface, which may have become soiled or marked over the years, as well as checking for any permanent crushing or deformation of a pad under sustained load: a sunken element throws off the footing and cancels out the intended benefit. If the model is designed to receive a spike, make sure the central indentation has not been pierced all the way through.
