Description
The Furtive Sub is an active subwoofer designed for wall installation, from French manufacturer Atohm. Its sealed enclosure and cabinet of just 165 mm depth make it a solution intended to complement a hi-fi system or home cinema setup without taking up floor space, while maintaining controlled bass reproduction.
The subwoofer is built around an LD230 woofer from Atohm's Série Absolue, featuring an 18 mm excursion that allows it to produce deep bass despite the cabinet's compact size. Amplification is handled by a B&O ICEpower module rated at around 300 W, a Class D technology recognised for its efficiency and compactness. The sealed enclosure, by nature, delivers tight and precise bass, without the trailing effect typical of other loading types such as bass-reflex.
The built-in high-pass filter is adjustable between 40 and 150 Hz, with a choice of 12 or 24 dB per octave slope, allowing the crossover point to be adjusted according to the associated speakers. It can also be disabled to let filtering be managed directly by a home cinema amplifier, offering flexible integration depending on the installation configuration.

What to check before buying used
The B&O ICEpower amplification module should start up without any background noise or unwanted cut-outs, as this would indicate a tired power supply stage or thermal protection. Check that the LD230 driver shows no stiffness or excessive play in its 18 mm excursion, as the sealed enclosure allows no room for suspension deformation. Also test the high-pass filter potentiometer across the full 40-150 Hz range: a setting that jumps or crackles points to an oxidised component. Finally, inspect the cabinet and wall-mounting system, which bear the weight of the subwoofer's 25 kg.
