Description
The Atohm GT2-HD is a 3-way floorstanding speaker designed and manufactured in France, at the Atohm workshops in Saint-Étienne. It occupies a high-end position within the manufacturer's range and is aimed at demanding stereo listening, in a standalone floorstanding configuration.
The design combines two 160 mm woofers fitted with an LD150 diaphragm, a dedicated 160 mm midrange and a 28 mm soft dome tweeter. This three-way arrangement allows the bass, midrange and treble to be handled by specialised drivers, which limits interference between registers and favours a more detailed reproduction of voices and timbres. The rigid MDF cabinet incorporates an HDCS mechanical decoupling system, designed to reduce unwanted vibrations in the structure and preserve the tonal neutrality of the whole.
With a sensitivity of 91 dB and a stated frequency response of 35 Hz to 30 kHz, the GT2-HD covers a wide spectrum, from deep bass through to the highest harmonics reproduced by the soft dome tweeter.

What to check before buying used
The surrounds of the two 160 mm woofers deserve a careful visual check: on a speaker of this age, the surround can dry out, crack or come away, which affects bass performance. Also check the condition of the MDF cabinet and the HDCS decoupling system, whose feet can compress or crack over time. A test at moderate volume across all three ways will reveal any rubbing noise from the diaphragm or unusual stiffness in the midrange or tweeter.
