What to check before buying used
On a cable sold by the metre, attention should focus mainly on the quality of the terminations: check that the spades or banana plugs are correctly crimped or soldered onto the OCC and UC-OFC copper strands, with no oxidation or bare conductor protruding. Also check the FEP insulation along its full length, looking for any crack, pinch mark or crush mark that could indicate damaged shielding. The substantial 5.2 mm² cross-section makes the cable quite stiff: make sure it has not suffered any tight bend that could weaken the internal conductors.
