Description
The IN50 Signature is a stereo integrated amplifier from Atoll Electronique, designed and manufactured in France according to a purely analogue architecture. It handles the amplification of a hi-fi system on its own, without any intermediate digital stage, relying on a discrete component design.
Its power output of 2 × 50 W into 8 Ω, rising to 2 × 70 W into 4 Ω, allows it to drive speakers with varying loads without being limited to easy configurations alone. The power supply is built around a 170 VA toroidal transformer paired with a capacitance reserve of 17,874 µF, a key point for dynamic performance during the most demanding musical passages. The frequency response extends from 5 Hz to 100 kHz, reflecting a wide bandwidth beyond the audible spectrum.
In terms of connectivity, the unit offers five RCA inputs as well as a By-Pass input allowing it to be used as a simple power amplifier within a home cinema or multichannel system. What to check before buying used
The volume potentiometer is worth testing through its full rotation to detect any crackling or channel loss, a common symptom of worn contact tracks. Extended listening also helps to check for the absence of hum or distortion that would indicate ageing power supply capacitors. Finally, an inspection of the RCA inputs and the By-Pass socket is advisable to rule out any play or oxidation in the connectors that could cause dropouts or interference.
