Description
The MA-100 is a stereo power amplifier from Atoll electronique, a French audio electronics manufacturer. It is based on a fully discrete-component dual-mono design, intended to power speakers downstream of a preamplifier or a source with a line-level output.
Its power output reaches 2 × 60 W into 8 Ω and 2 × 80 W into 4 Ω, with the possibility of running it in bridged mode to obtain 150 W mono, a configuration useful for powering a subwoofer or a pair of speakers in bi-amplification. Operation is in pure class A from 0 to 10 W, then switches to class AB beyond that, a choice which favours linearity and transient speed at low power levels, the range in which most domestic listening takes place. The power supply relies on a 170 VA toroidal transformer paired with a 16,600 µF capacitance reserve, sized to absorb transient current demands without faltering. The unit has two inputs with an impedance of 220 kΩ and a sensitivity of 1.37 V.
The dual-mono architecture, which physically separates the amplification circuits of the two channels, aims to limit interaction between the left and right channels and to preserve stereo separation and signal dynamics.

What to check before buying used
On this dual-mono amplifier with discrete components, check that both channels are properly balanced and that there is no hum or distortion on start-up, a common symptom of ageing capacitors in the 16,600 µF reserve. Class A operation up to 10 W generates noticeable continuous heat: inspect the heatsink and any signs of internal overheating. Also test the bridged mode and both inputs, as well as the condition of the toroidal transformer, which can develop a slight mechanical hum with age.
