The LCD-S20 is a closed-back circumaural headphone fitted with a planar magnetic transducer, a technology Audeze typically uses on its open-back studio models. The closed, acoustically damped ear cups block outside noise, which sets this model apart from the brand's usually open-back planar headphones.
The 90 mm transducer relies on an ultra-thin Uniforce diaphragm, a network of N50 neodymium Fluxor magnets and Fazor phase management, combined with the SLAM technology specific to this model for bass reproduction. Frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 40 kHz, with a maximum SPL above 120 dB and harmonic distortion below 0.1% at 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz. The 18 ohm impedance and 93 dB/1mW sensitivity mean a minimum required power above 100 mW, with a recommended level beyond 250 mW to make full use of the transducer, whose maximum admissible power reaches 5 W RMS.
The build combines magnesium, aluminium and steel. The suspension headband is adjustable and leather-covered, and the soft, gel-filled ear cups attach by magnets, allowing them to be replaced or customised. The cable connects on each side of the headphones.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the gel ear cups, which are prone to wear and compression over time, as well as the strength of the fixing magnets that allow them to be replaced. The leather headband also deserves a visual check, as does the condition of the detachable cable connectors on each side, a contact point frequently used on this type of headphone.
