Description
The Audeze LCD-XC is a closed-back circumaural headphone with planar magnetic drivers, designed for uses where sound isolation is required. It shares the same driver base and construction as the LCD-X, from which it inherits the level of detail, but in a closed-back configuration that blocks external noise and limits sound leakage picked up by a nearby microphone.
The headphones incorporate Audeze's proprietary technologies: Ultra-Thin Uniforce diaphragms, Fazor waveguides and neodymium magnets. This planar magnetic architecture aims for precise, detailed sound while maintaining high efficiency and low impedance, allowing the LCD-XC to be driven directly from the headphone output of most devices, without dedicated amplification being mandatory.
The suspension headband distributes weight across the top of the skull, and the earpads offer reinforced support to reduce fatigue during long listening sessions. The tuning is intended to be neutral and distortion low, with a view to extended sessions without listening fatigue.

What to check before buying used
The earpad foams compress and crack over time: check their pliability and the absence of holes, though they are easily replaced by Audeze. Check the headband suspension, which can stretch or tear on well-worn units, and make sure the detachable cables and their connectors at the rear of the earpads show no play or intermittent contact. Finally, listen to both planar magnetic transducers side by side to rule out any level or tonal imbalance between the two channels.
