Description
The MM-100 is an open-back circumaural headphone from Audeze, fitted with planar magnetic transducers. It was developed in collaboration with Manny Marroquin, a Grammy Award-winning engineer and producer, with the aim of reproducing sound faithful to what is heard in the control room. It is intended for critical studio listening as much as for on-the-go use.
The 90 mm transducer is built around a Fluxor™ magnet array combined with Fazor™ phase management and an N50 neodymium magnet, with an ultra-thin Uniforce™ diaphragm. This design achieves total harmonic distortion below 0.1% at 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz, for a stated frequency response of 20 Hz to 25 kHz and a maximum SPL level above 120 dB. With a sensitivity of 98 dB/1mW and an impedance of 18 ohms, the MM-100 remains easy to drive: Audeze recommends a minimum power of 100 mW and suggests 250 mW for optimal performance, with a maximum admissible power of 5 W RMS.
The chassis combines magnesium fittings and grilles with a spring steel headband, for an assembly stated to be durable while remaining light, with the complete headphone weighing 475 g. The supplied cable measures 2.5 m, single-ended, with a 3.5 mm TRS to 1/4 inch TRS termination.
This type of headphone is aimed at musicians, sound engineers and demanding listeners looking for a monitoring tool capable of working just as well connected to a professional audio interface as to a consumer device, thanks to its high-efficiency drivers.

What to check before buying used
On this open-back headphone, the ear pads and headband padding show wear first: check that they are not compressed, cracked, or coming away, as replacement affects the stated frequency response. Also inspect the magnesium grilles, which are sensitive to impacts, and test each earcup separately to rule out any channel imbalance, common on ageing planar transducers. Finally, check the 3.5 mm TRS connector and the condition of the 2.5 m cable, which is often a source of poor contact after several years of use.
