Description
The Maestro Anniversary is a stereo integrated amplifier from Audio Analogue, conceived as three separate devices brought together within a single chassis: a power supply unit, a preamplifier and a power amplifier, each housed on its own panel. This modular architecture aims to limit electrical interaction between the stages and to provide a solid foundation for high-fidelity amplification.
The power supply relies on a 600 VA transformer dedicated to each channel, paired with an ultra-fast 50 A discrete diode rectifier bridge. Filtering capacitance reaches 16,800 μF per branch, for a total of 67,200 μF across the whole amplifier: a generous energy reserve intended to absorb power peaks without faltering. The amplification stage adopts a complete dual-mono configuration, with the right and left channels separated all the way to earth and to the power supply units, with no common point between them; even the digital controls of the volume chip are optically isolated.
The preamplifier follows the same dual-mono logic. Immediately after the input connectors, relays handle channel switching, followed by a discrete-component buffer intended to isolate the amplifier from the source. The maximum admissible input voltage is around 6 VRMS. The buffers, balanced at both input and output, operate in Class A and use four volume chips per channel, a choice intended to avoid any overall compromise in level control. After this control stage, the preamplifier proper provides an additional gain of around 12 dB.
This type of construction is aimed at a demanding hi-fi enthusiast, one who values strict channel separation and a robust power supply, within a stereo system where reproduction quality takes precedence over compactness. The dual-mono design and Class A implementation of the volume control stage reflect a pursuit of neutrality and precision rather than all-round multi-source versatility.

What to check before buying used
On this type of dual-mono amplifier with a large energy reserve, it is worth checking the condition of the switching relays located just after the inputs, as their contacts can oxidise over time and cause crackling or channel loss. The large filtering capacitors also deserve particular attention: after several years without extended use, they may require gradual reforming to regain their original characteristics. Checking the symmetry between the two channels, given that the power supply and amplification are entirely separate, makes it possible to detect any drift in one of the two blocks.
