Description
The Audiolab 6000A Play is a stereo integrated amplifier featuring network streaming functions. It combines a classic audio section, with analogue and digital inputs, with wireless connection capabilities: Bluetooth aptX, Wi-Fi and Ethernet allow access to online music sources directly from the unit, without going through an external player.
The ES9018K2M digital-to-analogue converter processes signals up to a sampling frequency of 192 kHz, with total harmonic distortion below 0.0006% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 112 dB. These figures translate into a clean output signal with a low level of residual noise. Three digital filters are available (sharp roll-off, slow roll-off, minimum phase), allowing the sound to be adjusted according to listening preferences. The output level is 2.05 V at 0 dBFS.
In terms of connectivity, the amplifier has three analogue AUX inputs, a phono input for a turntable, two coaxial digital inputs and a preamplified RCA output. A headphone amplifier is also built in. Automatic start-up via 12V trigger and automatic standby functions make it easier to integrate into an existing system and help limit standby power consumption.
This model is aimed at music lovers who want to centralise several sources, both analogue and digital, around a single connected unit. What to check before buying used
The motorised potentiometer may produce a crackling sound at the start of its travel if it has not been used regularly: test it across the whole volume range. Also check that the Wi-Fi and network streaming module work properly, as these are more prone to software-related wear than a purely analogue amplifier, along with the stability of the MM phono input. It is also advisable to check the protection relays and ensure there is no hum on the outputs.
