Description
The 6000CDT is a CD transport from Audiolab, that is to say a player dedicated to extracting the digital signal from a compact disc, without integrated analogue conversion. It only delivers digital outputs (coaxial and optical) and must therefore be paired with an external converter, such as the 32-bit DAC of the 6000A amplifier, to reproduce sound.
It uses the slot-loading mechanism from the 8300CD, a higher-end model within the Audiolab range. A look-ahead digital buffer limits reading errors, including on scratched or damaged discs. The digital output relies on a master clock driven by a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator, which reduces jitter in the signal sent to the associated DAC. The coaxial output additionally benefits from a differential line driver, designed to stabilise the signal sent to the converter.
The chassis is electromagnetically shielded and the unit has a dedicated power supply, two features intended to limit interference that could affect digital signal extraction.
This transport is aimed at users who already own a capable external DAC, or who wish to pair it with Audiolab's 6000A amplifier, and who are looking for a reliable CD source rather than a complete CD player with analogue output.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking that the slot-loading mechanism, which is particularly subject to mechanical wear, works properly, as well as testing playback of discs in good condition and slightly scratched discs to assess the effectiveness of the look-ahead buffer. It is also useful to test both digital outputs, coaxial and optical, with the DAC intended for use.
