Description
The Audiolab 7000A is a stereo integrated amplifier designed to centralise an entire home audio setup: turntable, digital sources, television and Bluetooth streaming. It sits within the Audiolab range between the 6000 and 9000 models, with the aim of combining power, connectivity and digital-to-analogue conversion in a single unit.
Its output power reaches 2 x 70 W into 8 ohms (THD below 1%), with a maximum current of 9 A delivered thanks to a 250 VA toroidal transformer and a reservoir capacity of 60,000 µF spread across four 15,000 µF capacitors. This generous power supply helps maintain the dynamics of the sound even at high volume. Total harmonic distortion measured at 1 kHz and 50 mW remains below 0.01%, and the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 110 dB (A-weighted), ensuring a very clean noise floor. Frequency response spans from 20 Hz to 20 kHz (± 0.3 dB).
The unit incorporates a DAC based on the ESS ES9038Q2M chip, capable of processing high-resolution files up to 768 kHz and fully decoding MQA, a format used by certain streaming services. Five digital filters allow the sound to be adjusted according to listening preferences. A 2.8-inch colour IPS screen displays settings, playback information and VU meters.
Connectivity covers most everyday uses: two RCA line inputs, an MM phono input for a turntable, a power amp input, two coaxial digital inputs, two optical inputs, a USB input for a computer, an HDMI ARC input for the television, as well as Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX. An RCA preamplifier output and a 12 V trigger input round out the package, along with a dedicated headphone amplifier.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking that the motorised volume potentiometer works properly and that there is no crackling on the RCA and phono inputs, as well as how the IPS screen behaves after several years of use. Checking that Bluetooth pairing works correctly and that all digital inputs (coaxial, optical, USB, HDMI ARC) function properly helps ensure that the connectivity as a whole remains operational.
