Description
The AudioQuest Hurricane Source is a mains cable designed specifically for powering the source components of a hi-fi system: CD players, DACs and turntables. It differs from the Hurricane HC version, intended for high-power appliances, by a design tailored to the low-current circuits found in these source components.
The cable uses Perfect-Surface+ (PSC+) copper conductors, whose purity and surface smoothness aim to limit distortion caused by irregularities in the metal. AudioQuest pairs this with a ground noise dissipation system, a technology patented by the brand, designed to reduce radio-frequency interference coupling to the circuit's ground. The characteristic impedance is zero across the 50 Hz – 1 MHz range, and the conductors feature controlled directionality, two elements typical of the overall design of AudioQuest's high-end mains cables.

What to check before buying used
With this type of high-end mains cable, the sensitive point remains the connectors (mains plug and IEC connector): check for any looseness, signs of heat damage or oxidation at the contact points, which would degrade current transfer. Also check the sheath along the full 2 m length for any marked kink, cut or crushing that could impair the shielding and the geometry of the PSC+ conductors. The controlled directionality requires a specific connection direction: make sure a marker (arrow, label) remains legible on the used cable.
