Description
The Hurricane is an audiophile mains cable from AudioQuest, designed to connect a high-resolution audio-visual device to the mains supply while limiting the intake of electrical noise. It is a dedicated power cable, intended to replace the standard mains cord supplied with a player, an amplifier or any other source component sensitive to disturbances on the electrical network.
The cable is built around Perfect-Surface+ (PSC+) copper conductors, a copper whose surface is treated to limit distortion linked to surface irregularities, a factor that affects the quality of the current delivered to a device's power stages. AudioQuest also adds a ground-noise dissipation system, a patented technology designed to draw off radio-frequency interference coupled to the circuit's ground. The cable also has zero characteristic impedance across the 50 Hz to 1 MHz range, combined with directionally controlled conductors that help draw off noise.

What to check before buying used
Check the integrity of the mains plugs and that there is no play in the connectors, the contact points most exposed to wear on this type of heavy cord. Inspect the sheath and shielding along the full length, particularly near the terminations, for pronounced kinks, cuts or crushing marks that could impair ground-noise dissipation. The stiffness inherent to this cable also means checking that no prolonged mechanical strain has weakened the connections at either end.
