Description
The NRG Tornado is a power cable from AudioQuest, intended to supply an element of a hi-fi or home cinema system. It replaces the standard power cord supplied with an audio component, with the aim of improving the quality of the electrical supply delivered to the circuits.
Its design combines two grades of high-purity copper: Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) and Perfect-Surface Copper + (PSC+), the latter offering even greater purity. This combination aims to limit interaction between the conducting strands, a source of transient intermodulation distortion, as well as to reduce distortion linked to grain boundaries present in any metallic conductor.
The cable also incorporates AudioQuest's patented Ground Noise-Dissipation technology. The earth wire of a power cord acts as an antenna picking up radio-frequency (RF) noise, which can then couple directly into the most sensitive audio and video circuits of a system. This technology seeks to drain this noise before it reaches the circuits, across the widest possible range of radio frequencies. AudioQuest also controls the RF impedance variation linked to the directional structure of drawn conductors, in order to direct noise towards the point where it will have the least impact.
This power cable is aimed at a listener attentive to the performance of their hi-fi system, wishing to optimise the electrical supply of an amplifier, a player or any other component sensitive to electrical background noise.
What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the mains plug and the IEC connector: tarnished, loose or slightly bent pins indicate heavy use and impair electrical contact. Inspect the sheath along its full length, particularly near the connectors, for pronounced kinks, cuts or any sign of the shielding beginning to show through. A cable that is too stiff, or whose connector no longer fits firmly into the appliance or wall socket, should be avoided.
