Description
The PowerQuest 2 is a mains power conditioner intended for audio and video systems. It is placed between the wall outlet and the system's components to filter the current supplied to them, with the aim of reducing electrical noise liable to degrade sound and picture.
The unit provides six outlets divided according to their use. The first outlet incorporates a linear filter optimised for 4K/8K video, designed for screens, televisions, projectors or universal players. Outlets 2 to 5 feature a linear filter suited to audio/video source components, computers, modems or routers. The sixth outlet is designed for high current, intended for more demanding devices such as a sound bar, a power amplifier, an audio/video receiver or a subwoofer.
The PowerQuest 2 employs non-sacrificial surge suppression, designed to block both high voltage and excessive current without the protective component wearing out or being destroyed with each intervention, unlike traditional varistor-based surge protectors.
The chassis features a slim profile combined with a floor-mounting bracket, allowing it to be installed behind a cabinet or piece of furniture, with power cords plugging directly into the AC outlets on the upper layer. For shelf installation, this lower bracket is easily removed, making the six outlets directly accessible.
This conditioner is aimed at audio-video installations comprising several devices sensitive to mains noise: source, amplifier, television or video projector, possibly combined with network equipment such as a modem or router. The division of outlets by type of use allows connections to be organised coherently according to the needs of each device in the system.
What to check before buying used
The outlets of all six sockets are worth testing one by one: a loose or oxidised contact on the high-current outlet, intended for an amplifier or sound bar, can result in poor power supply to the connected device. The indicator meant to signal the state of the non-sacrificial suppression circuit should be checked: if it remains off or flashes abnormally, surge protection may be out of service without the current ceasing to flow. Also examine the mains cord and wall outlet for signs of overheating, which would indicate an excessive load placed on an incorrectly chosen outlet.
