Description
The PowerQuest 505 is a mains power conditioner from AudioQuest, designed to power up to six audio-video components while conditioning the current that feeds them. It sits between the wall socket and the system's components to limit electrical disturbances that could affect the signal.
The unit combines differential filtering and common mode filtering, two complementary approaches to reducing electromagnetic and radio-frequency noise carried by the mains supply. This dual action relies on AudioQuest's patented Noise-Dissipation technology, designed to dissipate interference before it reaches connected components. Severe surge protection automatically cuts the power in the event of an electrical incident, protecting connected equipment from a voltage spike.
The six linear mains outlets allow several elements of a home cinema or hi-fi installation to be connected simultaneously: amplifier, digital source, turntable, television or projector. An integrated USB-A port additionally offers the possibility of charging a portable device without going through a power supply that could introduce noise into the system.

What to check before buying used
The USB-A port and the six linear outlets are subject to repeated plugging and unplugging: check that none show any play, oxidation or poor contact. The surge protection sometimes trips following a past electrical incident, which can cause an unexpected power cut; testing each outlet under power is advisable. As with any mains unit, also check the condition of the power cable and the fixing of the chassis, whose weight rests solely on the wall socket.
