Description
The Rocket 33 is a speaker cable designed to connect an amplifier to its speakers. AudioQuest applies what it calls a Double Star-Quad geometry, a crossed arrangement of conductors that departs from the simple two-strand parallel cable. According to the manufacturer, this arrangement directly affects the fundamental electrical parameters of the connection, capacitance and inductance, and translates on listening into better dynamic contrast and a more legible reading of the signal.
Conduction relies on two combined qualities of copper: Long-Grain Copper (LGC), which carries fewer oxides and grain boundaries, and Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC), of even higher purity, tasked with softening harshness and gaining in clarity. The whole represents a cross-section of 4 x 1.3 mm², spread across four conductors, all wrapped in a white PVC jacket.
- Air-injected polyethylene foam insulation: since air absorbs almost no energy, the dielectric returns less distortion than solid materials.
- Negative conductors wrapped in carbon-loaded polyethylene, which limits the return of radio-frequency residue towards the amplifier.
- Carbon layer damping the interaction between positive and negative poles, complemented by external carbon-based noise dissipation.
- AudioQuest SureGrip banana plugs in beryllium copper, with silver-plated contact.
This type of cabling is aimed at listeners who have already sorted out the question of source components and are now looking to refine the final link of their chain, particularly in an environment loaded with electromagnetic interference, where the carbon treatment comes into its own. It is available in several pair lengths, from 2 x 2 m to 2 x 4 m, allowing the connection to be adjusted to a classic stereo setup as well as to speakers placed further away.

What to check before buying used
The first step is to examine the SureGrip banana plugs: their gripping mechanism must still bite firmly into the terminal, and the silver plating on the contacts must not be tarnished or pitted. Then follow the white PVC jacket along its full length, looking for pinching, cuts or areas crushed by a piece of furniture, as a damaged jacket often points to a mistreated conductor underneath. Finally, check the cable exit at each termination, an area where repeated twisting eventually fatigues the strands, and make sure the four lengths are consistent and have not been re-cut.
