Description
The SureGrip 1000 is a banana connector designed by AudioQuest for terminating your own speaker cables or mains cables to a high quality standard. Sold here in a set of 4, it allows you to replace worn plugs or terminate bare cable according to your connection needs.
This connector is based on a proprietary system called Cold-Weld, a mechanical fixing that clamps the conductor without the need for soldering. The internal conductors of the plug are made of copper and beryllium, an alloy valued for its rigidity and conductivity, while the final contact benefits from direct gold plating, a treatment that limits oxidation of the contact point over time. The body is protected by ABS caps, a technical plastic resistant to impact and wear.
The plug accepts cables with a cross-section of up to 6.6 mm², which covers most large-diameter speaker cables used in domestic hi-fi. An Allen key is supplied to tighten the Cold-Weld system without needing to buy an additional tool.

What to check before buying used
The Cold-Weld system should be checked rather than a conventional solder joint: verify that the Allen key clamping on plugs already assembled has remained firm, as a loosely clamped connector can lead to loss of contact or the cable coming detached. Also inspect the gold plating at the contact points for any sign of oxidation or scratching, and check that the ABS caps show no cracking or looseness at the plug body.
