AudioQuest Type 9+ DBS
AudioQuest speaker cable supplied terminated, in solid-core PSC+ copper and fitted with the DBS dielectric bias system, intended for well-resolved hi-fi systems.
Description
The Type 9+ DBS is a speaker cable linking amplifier and speakers, supplied terminated and ready to connect. AudioQuest places it towards the top of its speaker cable range, with a construction designed to preserve signal integrity along the full length of the connection.
Conduction is provided by Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) implemented as solid conductors, an approach intended to limit distortion and improve clarity compared with conventional stranded conductors. The conductor layout follows a Star Quad geometry, combined with a multilayer carbon-based jacket and directionally controlled shielding, all aimed at keeping interference and noise away from the transmitted signal.
The Type 9+ also incorporates the DBS (Dielectric Bias System): a battery-powered module applies a permanent bias to the insulation surrounding the conductors, preventing the build-up of electrical charge in the dielectric and the resulting signal degradation.
- PSC+ copper (Perfect Surface Copper+), solid conductors
- Star Quad structure
- Multilayer carbon-based jacket
- Directionally controlled shielding
- DBS (Dielectric Bias System)
This level of construction is aimed at already coherent hi-fi systems, where the connection between amplifier and speakers becomes an audible link. The cable is supplied as terminated pairs in several lengths, allowing the connection to be matched to the actual speaker layout rather than accumulating excess cable.

What to check before buying used
The DBS module runs on a battery: check the indicator on the unit and be prepared to replace it if the charge is depleted, as otherwise the dielectric bias is no longer maintained. On a terminated cable, the condition of the terminations matters as much as that of the conductor itself: check the tightness of the spades or banana plugs, and look for any stray strands or play at the jacket entry point. Finally, confirm that the length on offer matches your speaker layout, as a terminated cable cannot be shortened without redoing the terminations.
