AudioQuest William Tell Zero
Audiophile speaker cable from AudioQuest's Folk Hero range, with solid-core PSC+ copper conductors and 72 V DBS dielectric bias, terminated in banana plugs, 2 × 3 m.
Description
The William Tell Zero belongs to AudioQuest's Folk Hero range, a line of speaker cables designed to transmit the audio signal with minimal alteration between the amplifier and the speakers. This model is supplied as a pair measuring 2 × 3 metres, terminated with banana plugs.
Its conductors are made of solid Perfect-Surface+ (PSC+) copper, meaning solid-core rather than stranded: this construction avoids the contact points between multiple copper strands that can be a source of surface distortion when the signal travels through a conventional multi-strand cable. AudioQuest complements this base with its Zero-Tech design, engineered to let current pass through without compressing it.
The cable also incorporates a Dielectric Bias System (DBS) operating at 72 V: it saturates the insulation surrounding the conductors in order to limit absorption and delayed release of energy, which can blur the signal. In addition, a carbon-based Noise Dissipation System (NDS) is included, designed to drain common-mode radio-frequency interference before it reaches the speakers.
This cable is intended for an already accomplished hi-fi system, where the amplifier and speakers are capable of reproducing the nuances that a cable of this quality can preserve. It will particularly suit listeners seeking a carefully engineered speaker connection, with no compromise on conductor construction or electrical noise handling.

What to check before buying used
With this type of cable, the key points to check are the terminations: verify that the banana plugs and their cold-welded crimping have not been bent, forced or oxidised through repeated unplugging, which would degrade the contact. The 72 V DBS module deserves a functional test, as its battery or power supply may have discharged or its electronics may have drifted over time. Also check the condition of the sheath along the full length of both cables, looking for pronounced kinks, cuts or crush marks that could affect the NDS shielding.
