Description
The Yukon is an AudioQuest interconnect cable in XLR version, designed to link an audio source to a preamplifier or integrated amplifier in balanced configuration. It belongs to the range of cables designed to limit signal loss and interference along the analogue path.
The conductor is solid Perfect Surface Copper+ (PSC+), a copper worked to offer the most regular surface possible and reduce distortion linked to irregularities in the metal's structure. The dielectric, that is the insulation surrounding the conductor, uses an airtube structure in polyethylene, which limits direct contact between the copper and the insulating material. The cable also incorporates AudioQuest's proprietary NDS (Noise-Dissipation System) technology, a three-layer shielding combining carbon and metal, designed to dissipate radio-frequency interference (RFI) picked up along the line. The structure is balanced, consistent with XLR use, and the connectors are pure silver-plated copper, cold-welded to guarantee a stable contact over time.
This cable is aimed at hi-fi systems fitted with XLR outputs and inputs, typically configurations where the aim is to make the most of a balanced connection between a source (CD player, DAC, turntable with phono preamplifier) and an amplifier or preamplifier. It suits installations where the user wishes to refine the analogue connection without changing electronics.
What to check before buying used
Test the continuity of both channels and check for the absence of crackling at connection, particularly at the NDS shielding and the cold-welded XLR connectors, which can weaken with repeated handling. Check the condition of the silver-plated copper connectors, which are prone to signs of oxidation or corrosion if the cable has been stored in a damp environment. Also examine the sheath along its entire length for pronounced kinks, cuts or crushed areas that could affect the airtube structure of the dielectric.
