The Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7B is a closed-back circumaural headphone with active noise cancelling, successor to the ANC7 model. It was designed for portable use, with MP3, CD and DVD players, in-flight entertainment systems and Apple products.
The headphones feature 40 mm neodymium magnet transducers, paired with an electronic noise cancelling system housed entirely within the earcups, with no separate external module. This electronics can reduce ambient noise by up to 90%. Power is supplied by a single AAA battery; without it, the headphones continue to work in passive mode, with no noise cancelling activated.
This type of headphone is aimed at mobile use: air travel, commuting, noisy office environments or any context where active sound isolation provides listening comfort. The foldable format and compact, lightweight design make everyday transport easier.
What to check before buying used
The earcup foam pads compress and crumble over time: check their suppleness and the absence of cracks, as a replacement set may be necessary. Be sure to test the noise cancelling circuit with a fresh AAA battery, as some units retain only passive mode following an electronic fault in the earcups. Also check the folding mechanism and the headband, which are subject to wear from portable use, as well as the battery compartment for any signs of oxidation.
