Description
The Composer is an open-back circumaural headphone, positioned at the top of Austrian Audio's range. It is aimed at critical music listening at home, on a hi-fi system or a dedicated headphone source.
The 49 mm driver and 22 Ω impedance allow use with a variety of sources, with an accepted input power of up to 160 mW. The stated frequency range extends from 5 Hz to 44 kHz, well beyond the audible spectrum, reflecting a design intended to limit compromises at the extremes of the signal. The adjustable mesh headband promotes air circulation, a useful feature during extended listening sessions, and the whole unit weighs less than 400 g without cable. What to check before buying used
The mesh headband should be checked for elasticity and any tearing, as it affects how the headphones fit. Check the condition of the earpads, which can flatten or crack over time, as well as the proper operation of the tilt mechanism across its four positions. Also test each of the three detachable cables and their banana connectors, to rule out any loose contact or wear on the jack, XLR or Pentaconn plugs.
