Description
The B&W CCM663SR is a ceiling-mounted speaker designed for in-ceiling installation. It was conceived for two uses: to serve as a surround channel in a home cinema setup, or to deliver full stereo sound in a room where floor or wall space is lacking for traditional speakers.
Its distinctive feature lies in its internal configuration: the speaker houses two 150 mm woofer/midrange drivers with Kevlar cones paired with two 25 mm soft dome tweeters. This dual-way design allows a full stereo signal to be reproduced from a single ceiling installation point, without loss of audio channel, avoiding the need to fit two separate speakers to cover left and right.
A switch allows easy toggling between stereo mode and surround mode, making the speaker adaptable depending on whether it is used alone to fill a room with sound or integrated into a multichannel home cinema system.
This model is aimed at installations where discreet integration is a priority, kitchens, bathrooms, offices or small living rooms, as well as home cinema configurations requiring a surround channel placed on the ceiling rather than on a stand or wall mount.
What to check before buying used
The stereo/surround switching mode should be tested directly on the built-in selector switch, a mechanical component prone to contact oxidation which can prevent switching between the two modes.
