Description
The B&W CWM652 is an in-ceiling speaker designed to be built into a ceiling or wall, offering a discreet listening solution with no visible cabinet or stand. It forms part of a range of in-ceiling models from B&W, of which it is the most compact version.
Its 130 mm midrange/bass driver uses a blue-coloured Kevlar cone, mounted in a moulded chassis. This chassis rigidity limits deformation under low-frequency stress, resulting in tighter, more responsive bass. The speaker also features a 25 mm aluminium dome tweeter, paired with a Nautilus-type tube loading, a technology designed to reduce internal resonances behind the dome for a cleaner treble output.
A three-position selector allows the treble level to be adjusted, making it possible to tailor the sound to the room's acoustics or the speaker's position relative to the listener.

What to check before buying used
On B&W in-ceiling models of this generation, the three-position treble selector should be operated and listened to on each setting: an oxidised contact will result in a channel that cuts out or is abnormally attenuated. Also check the condition of the moulded chassis and the blue Kevlar cone, which may show signs of impact damage or paint if the speaker has been repainted after ceiling installation. The QuickDogs fixing system should be tested claw by claw: bent or seized tabs compromise the hold within the cut-out.
