The CWM8.3 D is a three-way in-wall speaker designed to disappear into a wall or ceiling while delivering refined sound reproduction. It is aimed at those who want music or home cinema playback without any speaker being visible in the room.
Its architecture relies on three separate transducers. The 25 mm Diamond dome tweeter is decoupled from the rest of the baffle, an arrangement that limits parasitic vibrations transmitted between drivers and favours precise treble reproduction. Diamond, a material that is both lightweight and rigid, allows this dome to reproduce high frequencies with reduced distortion. The 130 mm midrange uses a Continuum FST cone, a technology unique to B&W designed to offer good transparency across the midrange register, where most of the voice and instruments sit. Bass is handled by two 180 mm woofers with Aerofoil cones, whose lightness and rigidity aim for controlled low-frequency reproduction.
A distinctive design feature, the central baffle of the CWM8.3 D can rotate fully, allowing installation either horizontally or vertically depending on the room configuration and the chosen location in the wall or ceiling.

What to check before buying used
The rotating central baffle should turn freely without play or creaking, a stiff mechanism often indicating prolonged exposure to humidity. Inspect the Aerofoil cones of both woofers as well as the Diamond dome of the tweeter for deformation, cracks or signs of impact, as these components are exposed during removal from a ceiling or wall. Also check the condition of the protective grille and ensure there is no play in the mounting frame, which can warp over time.
