Description
The B&W DB3D is an active subwoofer in a compact format, designed to deliver powerful bass without occupying the space of a traditional subwoofer. It integrates as well into a home cinema installation as into a music listening system, providing the low frequency extension that main speakers cannot always ensure on their own.
The subwoofer houses two 20 cm drivers with Aerofoil cones, mounted back-to-back to cancel internal cabinet resonances: this arrangement allows the power delivered by the amplifier to be reproduced without loss or parasitic vibration. The 1000 watt Hypex Class D digital amplification drives the unit with optimised operation, including during prolonged use. The sealed enclosure, combined with a frequency response extending down to 8.5 Hz (-6 dB), allows for extended and precise bass reproduction. The subwoofer features XLR and RCA inputs as well as trigger inputs for integration into an automation system, and is controlled via a dedicated control app.

What to check before buying used
The Hypex Class D digital amplification is worth testing at different volume levels to rule out any parasitic noise, hum or unexpected cut-outs. Also check the proper functioning of the XLR, RCA and trigger inputs, as well as the responsiveness of the control app if it is still supported. A visual inspection of both Aerofoil drivers, checking for deformation or signs of denting on the cones, completes the check.
