Description
The B&W Formation Bass is a subwoofer designed to complement a Formation speaker system, Bowers & Wilkins' wireless range. It reinforces the bass register of both music and film, integrating into a setup without requiring cabling to the main speakers.
Its design relies on dual opposed driver technology, a principle intended to reduce distortion by compensating for the mechanical vibrations generated by the movement of the diaphragms. Amplification is provided by a Class D stage, an architecture recognised for its energy efficiency and its ability to deliver high power within a compact volume. Dynamic equalisation also adjusts performance in real time according to the signal received.
Connection to the Formation speakers is wireless, thanks to the range's proprietary technology. Installation is presented as quick, with no complex cabling between the subwoofer and the rest of the system.

What to check before buying used

Check that wireless pairing with the Formation speakers is established without dropouts or latency, as a fault in the radio module is difficult to diagnose after the fact. Finally, check the Class D stage at low volume: hiss or distortion at this stage often betrays a worn power supply component.
