Description
The FS 600 S3 is a speaker stand from B&W, developed to accompany the 600 S3 series. It is not a generic stand chosen by default but an accessory designed alongside the speakers it is meant to support, so that the speaker-and-stand pairing forms a coherent whole once installed in the listening room.
Its primary purpose is to house the 603 S3, 606 S3 or 607 S3, but there is nothing to stop you installing another speaker as long as its dimensions are comparable: the stand then fulfils the same function, placing the cabinet at a consistent height and giving it a firm footing. It is precisely this decoupling from the floor and this stability that benefit the sound reproduction, tightening the sound image compared with a speaker placed on a piece of furniture or a shelf.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the top plate and the base: scratches and impact marks are common there, and a slightly warped base compromises the stability of the whole unit. Also check for the presence and condition of the decoupling spikes or feet, which are often lost during a house move, as well as the assembly hardware. Finally, make sure the column has not been drilled or modified if the seller ran a cable through the inside.
