B&W HTM72 S3

The HTM72 S3 is a centre speaker from B&W, designed as the most compact model in the 700 Series range. It occupies the centre position of a home cinema system, where its main task is to reproduce dialogue and voice with precision, complementing main speakers and surround speakers from the same series.

This centre speaker adopts a 2-way bass-reflex configuration, combining two 13 cm Continuum cone midrange drivers and a 25 mm carbon dome tweeter mounted on a Nautilus tube loading. The Continuum cone, of composite construction, limits the behavioural breakup that can appear with more conventional cones, resulting in a more even rendering across the registers. The carbon tweeter, with a resonance threshold at 47 kHz, allows treble reproduction with a high level of detail beyond the classic audible spectrum.

In terms of measured performance, the HTM72 S3 offers a sensitivity of 87 dB /1W /1m and an impedance of 8 ohms, with a minimum of 4.3 ohms, making it compatible with amplifiers delivering between 30 and 120 W RMS into 8 ohms. Its frequency response extends from 48 Hz to 33 kHz at -6 dB, and from 70 Hz to 28 kHz at -3 dB, with measured distortion below 1% between 100 Hz and 22 kHz at a level of 90 dB.
