Description
The M-1 MKII is a compact satellite speaker from B&W, designed to adapt to a variety of uses: in pairs for stereo listening, paired with a subwoofer in a 2.1 configuration, or integrated into a multichannel Mini Theatre-type set-up. Its reduced size and two-part articulated cabinet make it a model designed to blend into spaces where a traditional floorstanding speaker would not fit.
The two-part cabinet of the M-1 MKII can be angled and rotated in all directions, allowing it to be used in both vertical and horizontal positions, notably for use as a centre speaker. This MKII version features drive units designed entirely in-house by the brand, along with a filter specific to this model, and offers, according to the manufacturer, increased sound dispersion as well as reproduction covering the full bandwidth.
Thanks to this mounting flexibility, the M-1 MKII suits a variety of installations: on a shelf, wall-mounted, or floor-standing via a dedicated stand. It is aimed at those wishing to put together a discreet home cinema system or a pair of compact stereo speakers, without the space constraints of a classic floorstanding speaker. What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the drive unit suspensions: sagging, tearing or excessive stiffness of the surround affects bass performance and may indicate a replacement will be needed. Also inspect the cabinet and the two-part articulation system, which should still pivot freely without play or creaking, as well as the grilles and veneer for signs of impact damage or peeling. A check at moderate volume can reveal any unwanted noise or distortion indicating a worn drive unit or filter.
