Description
The MM6+ is a mains power strip designed for audio installations, intended for the clean power supply of several hi-fi components. It stands apart from a conventional power strip through its construction: the body is CNC-machined from a single piece of synthetic material, giving it a distinctive shape and finish.
The six outlets that make up the unit were selected for their high contact pressure, noticeable when plugging in or unplugging a mains plug. This enhanced contact pressure, combined with an optimised contact surface, results in low contact resistance, which favours good distribution of electrical power between the connected components.
The internal wiring of live, neutral and earth is arranged in a star configuration: each outlet has its own individual wiring running back to the input connector, rather than a shared series wiring between outlets. This configuration limits the propagation of current spikes or interference appearing on the earth contact of one outlet to the other outlets on the unit.
This type of power strip is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts concerned with the quality of their system's power supply, particularly when several sources, amplifiers or sensitive components need to be connected to the same mains supply without disturbances from one component affecting the others.
What to check before buying used
Check the firmness of the six outlets by inserting a mains plug: contact pressure weakened by wear indicates degraded contact resistance, which defeats the purpose of the star wiring. Examine the CNC-machined body for cracks or chips, particularly around the drilled holes, as the synthetic material may show marks over time. Finally, check the mains input connector and its cable, whose internal strands for live, neutral and earth must remain intact.
