The DT131 TV is an open-back headphone produced by the German company Beyerdynamic, specifically designed for listening to television or radio. It allows the user to adjust the volume according to their needs, without imposing that sound level on others present in the room or on neighbours.
This model stands out for its single 6-metre-long cable, a length designed to allow the user to sit at a distance from the television without being hindered by the wire. This cable incorporates a separate volume control button for the right and left channels, as well as a switch enabling toggling between mono and stereo modes. The ear pads are removable, making maintenance or replacement easier over time.
Once the headphones are plugged into the television, the sound from the television's speakers is muted: listening then takes place exclusively through the headphones, at a level adjusted independently of the rest of the room.

What to check before buying used
The single 6-metre cable, fitted with the left/right potentiometers and the mono/stereo switch, should be tested along its entire length: these are the most common points of weakness on this model. The removable ear pads deteriorate over time and are worth checking for suppleness, though they can be easily replaced. It is also worth confirming that the automatic muting of the television's speakers still works correctly when the headphones are plugged in.
